“With creativity, we stop relying on what’s always been and open our eyes to what might be.”

Why is art and creativity important?

By engaging in art activities, children practice a variety of skills and progress in all areas of development. Creative art helps children grow in physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development. Children also practice imagination and experimentation as they discover new ways to create art.

When we consider essential skills that children need to succeed on their academic journey, we mainly think of the basics: speaking, reading, writing, counting etc.

Parents often believe that creativity is an intrinsic ability of ‘certain people’ with unusual talents.

In fact, this is not the case – creativity has nothing to do with artistic or musical talents. It is a way of thinking and expressing ourselves. It is about discovering and inventing new things, which motivate us to be imaginative and inventive.

Depending on what they are creating, different parts of a child’s brain are called upon to do different things. … Creativity involves critical thinking, planning and focusing of attention. Children learn through this process as different parts of the brain jump into action.

Kids are born innovators with vivid imaginations and a unique manner of self-expression. From a very early age, children exercise the capacity to challenge, to question and discover. In pursuit of new ideas, they keep their minds and hearts open, experiment with ideas, and build connections.

Every child is born creative and imaginative, but this capacity can be restrained, if kids have no space to behave imaginatively and release their creative energy.

They need opportunities and materials that give creative experiences. Creative activities for kids are endless. The more varied and multifaceted experiences kids have, the wider range of creative expression they gain in their early years.

  • Creativity is Multidisciplinary….

…Not only can you practice creativity through many different mediums, its benefits are applicable to almost any activity.

  • Creativity allows you to express yourself….

….An integral part of human development involves learning who we are and recognising how that fits into the rest of the world. Creativity allows self-discovery, and the opportunity to share a side of ourselves that we might otherwise have difficulty sharing.

  • Creativity promotes thinking and problem-solving…..

….From the technical details such as writing, drawing, or composing to the challenge of creating – problem-solving is a required component of the creative process.

  • Creativity reduces stress and anxiety…..

People usually pursue creative projects because they enjoy the process or the outcome. Just the act of creating alone inspires a sense of contentment.

  • Creativity allows you to enter your happy place and have fun. …

….Creativity is really another form of play, and play is universally important to each child’s sense of joy and well-being.

  • Creativity gives you a sense of purpose. …

….Writers, artists, and musicians often identify by those words whether they make money at their craft or not. Their creative method is their way of processing the world and a way of describing who they are.

  • Creativity can lead to feelings of accomplishment and pride….

….The combination of brainstorming, the process, and a finished project is often the perfect recipe for personal satisfaction.

.   Creativity encourages us to be lifelong learners….

….Learning how to think more creatively will benefit you the rest of your life, whatever your career. And, macroeconomic trends suggest creativity will only become more important moving forward.

Creativity helps you to see things differently and better deal with uncertainty. Studies show that creative people are better able to live with uncertainty because they can adapt their thinking to allow for the flow of the unknown.

And at a time like this, is there anything more we can wish for our children……?
